The Australian South Sea Islander Community Action for a Multicultural Society (CAMS) officer was tasked to consult with the Queensland Australian South Sea Islander community and implement this organisation.

QUASSIC formally came together after a meeting with Queensland Government Minister Grace Grace in Mackay, September 2017. This meeting was held with members of Queensland Australian South Sea Islander organisations to create community discussions about the formation of a Queensland state representative body. 

On 20 June 2019 Queensland United Australian South Sea Islander Council was incorporated.

QUASSIC objectives are:

(1) To liaise with and advise government agencies on protocols and expectations pertaining to Queensland Australian South Sea Islander (ASSI) communities.

(2) Cooperate and collaborate with other groups or individuals in promoting good community relations, harmony and advancing the outcomes of ASSI’s community objectives.

(3) To develop policy to influence state and federal government in core curriculum development around ASSI history.

(4) To include identification of Australian South Sea Islander people as a distinct identity group in government policy.

(5) To improve access for ASSI community to services and programs (in areas of Education, Health, Housing, Sports, Financial Literacy, Tourism, History and Heritage, Recreation, Environment, Science, Arts, Culture, Justice, Social Welfare).

(6) To identify, document, and preserve ASSI culturally significant heritage and historical sites.

(7) To preserve ASSI identity and heritage through collections, conservation, and dissemination of oral histories, photographs, archival documents, films, and digital media.

(8) To improve employment opportunities, lifestyles, cultural capabilities, and professional aspirations of all Australian South Sea Islanders including social, mental, physical, and spiritual.
